Uttara Kanda
Valmiki Ramayana · 113 sargas
Shri Ram's reign brings the narrative into Ram Rajya and the responsibilities of the later years. Our attention turns from the struggle to recover Mata Sita to life under the Lord's rule. Kingship becomes a field of duty, reminding us that the welfare of others requires continuing care. In these later years, Lava and Kusha, the sons of Shri Ram and Mata Sita, learn Maharshi Valmiki's poem from the sage and sing it. The story we read thus becomes a teaching received and carried forward through attentive learning. Their place in the narrative directs us towards our own responsibility as listeners. We must give the scripture time, understand what it teaches and return to it steadily. Begin with careful reading, and allow that understanding to guide daily conduct.
