Valmiki Ramayana · 128 sargas
The bridge across the sea opens the way to Lanka, where Shri Ram's army faces Ravan's forces. The war unfolds through the battles involving Kumbhkaran and Meghnad, and Lakshman's wound brings the urgent need for the Sanjivani. Service now demands endurance amid danger and distress. With Ravan's death, the narrative turns from battle to the restoration of order, and Vibhishan is crowned. Mata Sita's fire ordeal follows. In Goswami Tulsidas's telling, this marks the return of the real Mata Sita, who has been kept with Agni. Shri Ram, Mata Sita and their companions return to Ayodhya by the Pushpak, and the coronation follows. The movement from conflict to kingship teaches us to consider what victory requires afterwards: the acceptance of responsibility and the faithful exercise of duty.
