Sundara Kanda
Valmiki Ramayana · 68 sargas
Hanumanji carries his devotion into action as he leaps across the sea to Lanka in search of Mata Sita. He meets Vibhishan and finds her in the Ashok Vatika, where he gives her Shri Ram's ring. In this meeting, service takes the form of bringing reassurance to one enduring separation. Hanumanji burns Lanka and returns with Mata Sita's message, completing the task entrusted to him. The narrative then turns to Vibhishan's surrender to Shri Ram and the preparations for crossing the sea. Shri Ram asks the ocean for a way across. Throughout the kand, devotion directs strength, speech and action towards the Lord's purpose. Hanumanji's example asks us to keep our attention on the work entrusted to us and carry it through with courage and care.
