Valmiki Ramayana · 76 sargas

Forest life at Panchavati brings Shri Ram, Mata Sita and Lakshman into circumstances that test discernment and devotion. The encounter with Shurpanakha leads towards the episode of the golden deer, and Ravan abducts Mata Sita. The forest now becomes the setting of separation and the search for her. Jatayu fights Ravan and gives his life in the effort to protect her. His service shows that faithfulness is measured by the willingness to act when duty calls, even against a stronger opponent. Later, Shabari receives Shri Ram with hospitality. Her welcome brings our attention back to the simple acts through which devotion finds expression. Amid danger and grief, the kand teaches us to recognise opportunities for service and to carry out the duty that lies before us.
