In Sunderkand, Hanumanji leaps across the sea to Lanka in search of Mata Sita. He meets Vibhishan, then finds her in the Ashok Vatika and gives her Shri Ram’s ring. The search reaches its purpose in this meeting. The narrative continues through the burning of Lanka and Hanumanji’s return with Mata Sita’s message. His deeds remain directed towards the service entrusted to him.
The kand then moves from Hanumanji’s return to Vibhishan’s surrender to Shri Ram. As the story prepares for the crossing to Lanka, Shri Ram asks the ocean for a way across. Thus, the account carries us from one servant’s leap over the sea to the need for a passage across it.
The teaching is to join strength with devotion, keeping the Lord’s service before us in every action. Sunderkand contains 60 dohas. Read Hanumanji’s deeds with attention to the purpose that guides them.
