Valmiki Ramayana · 77 sargas
Shri Ram's story begins with reverence, for the heart must learn to receive what the scripture teaches. The invocations and the accounts of Shiva and Sati prepare us for His birth in Ayodhya. King Dashrath welcomes Shri Ram and His brothers, and the narrative moves from the royal household to the guidance of sage Vishwamitra. Shri Ram's encounter with Ahilya reveals the grace that restores hope. At Mata Sita's swayamvar, He breaks Shiva's bow, and the wedding at Janakpur brings the two together. These events direct our attention to the Lord through the relationships of family, teacher and marriage. As we read, we learn to look beyond the splendour of each occasion and attend to the reverence with which the Lord is received.
