Doha 236 →The scene
Mata Sita carries Shri Ram’s dark form in Her heart, yet the thought of Lord Shiva’s unyielding bow makes Her anxious. She returns to Bhavani’s temple, bows at the goddess’s feet and prays with folded hands. After praising Gauri’s greatness, She says that the Mother already knows Her longing because She dwells in every heart. Mata Sita then clasps Her feet. Moved by Her humility and love, Bhavani responds: the garland slips from the image, and the image smiles. Mata Sita reverently places the garland on Her head. Gauri assures Her that the beloved on whom Her heart rests will be Her husband. Mata Sita and Her companions rejoice, and She returns to the palace after worshipping Bhavani repeatedly.
What it teaches
Mata Sita’s prayer teaches us to bring our heart’s longing before the Divine Mother with humility and trust. She begins by praising Gauri’s greatness. The Mother has no beginning or end, sustains the universe and dwells within every heart. Hence, Mata Sita does not need to explain what She desires. Her silence expresses confidence in the Mother’s knowledge.
The word *binay* means humility. Goswami Tulsidas places it beside love when describing Bhavani’s response. Mata Sita approaches the goddess with reverence, then clasps Her feet. When the garland falls, She receives it upon Her head as grace.
For example, a child may sit beside a loving mother before finding words for a concern. The mother’s understanding allows the child to rest in her care. Similarly, Mata Sita entrusts Her longing to Gauri, who already knows Her heart.
Gauri’s blessing also directs our attention to Shri Ram’s compassion and His knowledge of Mata Sita’s fidelity and love. Before reciting, understand the prayer’s meaning. Then offer your longing humbly and bow with gratitude.
How to recite it
Recite this stuti attentively as a prayer to Mata Gauri, first understanding the meaning of its words. Begin with Mata Sita’s praise, then follow Her expression of trust and Gauri’s loving response. You may read it quietly or sing it at an unhurried pace during personal worship. If you include the blessing verses, remember that Gauri is speaking to Mata Sita. Let the recitation encourage humility, love and gratitude, without treating it as a promise that every wish must be fulfilled.
