The first instalment of the Ramayana film releases worldwide today, 5 November 2026. The makers announced the release date on 11 October 2026, as reported by IANS and Outlook. Nitesh Tiwari directs the two-part film, with Ranbir Kapoor playing Shri Ram, Sai Pallavi playing Mata Sita and Yash playing Ravan.

The film releases in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and English, including IMAX 3D. Part Two is planned for Diwali 2027. The film draws on the Ramayana tradition.

A story without limit

Goswami Tulsidas teaches that the story of Shri Ram cannot be measured by the bounds of any one telling. In Bal Kand of the Ramcharitmanas, he writes:

रामकथा कै मिति जग नाहीं। असि प्रतीति तिन्ह के मन माहीं॥ नाना भाँति राम अवतारा। रामायन सत कोटि अपारा॥

Ramcharitmanas, Bal Kand, Chaupai 1.33.3

“The wise hold the conviction that the story of Ram has no limit in the world. Shri Ram has descended in many ways, and the Ramayanas are a hundred crore and beyond count.”

The word अपारा means boundless. Every retelling, including a film, draws from this story that has no end. A film can open the door to Shri Ram's story. The source texts let us walk through it, giving us time to reflect on the events and their teachings.

After watching, read the same episode in the Ramcharitmanas or Valmiki Ramayana.
